History of the The Duke Street
Kings...The Reader's Digest Version:
The Kings formed in 1981 as a college band playing the Denver
area. We played at Sam's on Lookout Mountain (How many bands
can still claim that?!), Lakeside Amusement Park and lots of other
college bars and parties. After a few years the Kings disbanded
(pun intended) and the members went on their separate ways.
In 1998, a twist of fate and a concerted effort by calling every
Alan Hines (lead guitar, hair stylist)
in the Denver phone book brought Ranger Miller
(vocals, harmonica, campfire strummer), Frank
Serra
(bass, vocals), and Alan back together. The Duke Sreet Kings were
once again open for business. Not long after reuniting in 1998, the
Kings added Scott Shreeve
(interpretive dance, percussion and vocals), Tica Perry (vocals)
The Duke Street Queen? Oh well, I think Tica was only like
three years old when we picked the name, and Andrew Mueller (drums) who eventually decided that country living was his calling. Matt Martin
(biggest gigging guitarist in the known universe) started out as a
replacement bassist in the early 2000s and then worked his way into the
fold as one of the guitarists. 2004 marked a huge milestone for the The
Duke Street Kings with the release of our first CD "In With The In
Crowd". In the past few years, the Kings improved another notch
by adding Gordon
Steward (drums, choreography) and Ed May
(bass and band smart ass), former members of the local rock phenomenon,
Hypnic Twitch. This year (2007) saw the addition of a permanent
keyboard player on the Kings roster, Doug Egan.
We'd be remiss if we didn't mention the contributions of PJ Ashura and
Rick Pontalion who tickled the ivories (or synthetic plastics) on
occasions of the past.
